BC energy, from water to wire.
The generating stations, wind turbines, large dams and high-voltage lines in British Columbia's open records, on the terrain that shapes them. Each column is a station, as tall as its capacity. Pick a river, or point at anything.

Column height grows with the square root of the capacity, so the largest stations do not hide the rest. Dim columns are stations with no capacity on record. The light on the lines shows the network, not the direction of power: the public record carries neither direction nor voltage.
What the record holds
Reading the record...
- Generating stations
- Every power plant mapped in OpenStreetMap inside the province, with the capacity it records where one is given. Two records of the same station within 3 km are counted once.
- Wind turbines
- The Canadian Wind Turbine Database, Natural Resources Canada: every turbine with its project, model, hub height, rotor and year.
- Transmission lines
- BC Transmission Lines, Province of British Columbia: the high-voltage network from BC Hydro, independent producers and private owners. The public version carries no voltage.
- Dams
- BC Dams, Province of British Columbia: active dams 15 m or taller, with height, crest length, type and year.
